Managing Notifications

You can toggle each channel independently per notification type. For example, you might want email alerts for new applications but only in-app notifications for community replies.

Recommended Settings

Adjust these based on your role and responsiveness requirements.

Email Digest Preferences

Instead of receiving individual emails for every notification, you can opt for a daily or weekly digest. The digest compiles all notifications from the selected period into a single email with grouped summaries.

To enable digests:

1. Go to Profile Settings → Notifications
2. Scroll to Email Digest
3. Select Daily or Weekly
4. Choose which notification types to include in the digest

When a digest is enabled, individual email notifications for the selected types are suppressed. Urgent notifications (security alerts, at-risk thresholds) always send individually regardless of digest settings.

Push Notification Setup

Browser push notifications appear as system-level alerts even when the LBC tab is not in focus. To enable push notifications:

1. Your browser will prompt for permission — click Allow
2. On Firefox/Chrome/Edge, you may see a prompt at the top of the page
3. Once permitted, configure which notification types trigger push alerts in your notification settings

Push notifications work best for time-sensitive events like new applications and direct messages. They require a supported browser and an active internet connection.

Community Channel-Specific Notification Settings

Community notifications can be configured per channel. When viewing a community channel:

1. Click the channel settings icon (⚙️) in the channel header
2. Select Notification Preferences
3. Choose from:
   • All Messages — notified for every new post
   • Mentions Only — notified only when you're @mentioned
   • Nothing — mute this channel entirely

This granular control lets you follow high-traffic channels without being overwhelmed while staying responsive in channels where your participation is important.

Marking Notifications Read/Unread

The bell icon badge shows the count of unread notifications. You can:

• Mark single as read — click the notification or its dot indicator
• Mark all as read — click the Mark All Read button at the top of the notification center
• Mark as unread — click the dot indicator on a read notification to flag it for follow-up

Read notifications are visually dimmed. The badge count updates immediately.

Archiving

Notifications older than 90 days are automatically archived. You can also manually archive notifications from the full stream page:

1. Select the notifications you want to archive
2. Click Archive in the action bar
3. Archived notifications are hidden from the main stream but remain accessible via the Archived filter

Archiving is permanent — you cannot restore archived notifications to the main stream, but you can still view them by filtering.
