Notification Types

LBC uses notifications to keep you informed about important events across the platform. Notifications appear in the notification center (bell icon in the top navigation bar), and can also be delivered via email or push notification depending on your settings.

Application Notifications

These notifications relate to adoption, foster, and transport applications:

NotificationTrigger
New ApplicationSomeone submits an application for one of your organization's pets
Application Status ChangeAn application you submitted is approved, rejected, or moved to a new stage
Application MessageA staff member or adopter sends a message within an application thread
Application ReminderAn application has been pending without action for a configurable period

Application notifications are critical for timely response — organizations that respond quickly to applications have higher placement rates.

Pet Notifications

Pet-related notifications help you manage your organization's animal listings:

NotificationTrigger
Pet Status ChangeA pet's status changes (available, adopted, transferred, etc.)
Pet At-Risk AlertA pet's risk assessment score crosses a threshold (elevated, high, or critical)
Pet Added to FavoritesA public user adds a pet to their favorites list
Pet Flagged for ReviewA pet profile requires manual review (e.g., missing required fields)

At-risk alerts are particularly important — they ensure staff are aware when a pet needs intervention before its condition declines.

Transport Notifications

For organizations and volunteers involved in transport coordination:

NotificationTrigger
Transport Request MatchedA transport request has been matched with available volunteers
Transport Leg UpdatedA leg's status changes (assigned, in progress, completed, cancelled)
Volunteer AssignedYou have been assigned to a transport leg
Transport CompletedAll legs of a transport request are completed
Transport DelayedA transport leg has been delayed or rescheduled

These notifications keep all parties synchronized during multi-leg transport operations.

Community Notifications

For users participating in community channels:

NotificationTrigger
MentionSomeone mentions your username with @mention in a post or comment
ReplySomeone replies to your post or comment
Direct MessageYou receive a direct message from another user
Channel ActivityNew posts or significant activity in channels you follow
Channel InvitationYou are invited to join a private channel

Community notifications can be configured per-channel — you can mute noisy channels while staying active in important ones.

System Notifications

Platform-wide notifications that all users receive:

NotificationTrigger
Scheduled MaintenanceUpcoming maintenance window that may affect platform availability
Platform UpdateNew features or changes have been deployed
Policy UpdateTerms of service or privacy policy have been updated
Security AlertUnusual account activity detected (new device login, password change)

System notifications cannot be disabled — they ensure all users are aware of important platform changes and security events.
